Handcrafted soaps make great personalized gifts.  Handcrafted lavender soap is a great one to give.  You can take plain unscented glycerin soap, melt it down, add some purple color to make it look lavender, 7 to 10 drops of lavender fragrance, pour it into your desired mold and let harden.  It takes several hours for the soap to harden.  When hardened remove you handcrafted soap from the mold and wrap it in plastic wrap and you have you gift.  You can add your own personalized label for an added touch.

To make your own handcrafted glycerin soap you will need the following ingredients:

                                   2 to 3 cups glycerin

                                    1oz castor oil

                                    1oz shea butter

                                    2oz ground oatmeal (optional)

                                    1tbs beeswax

7 to 10 drops essential oil

1 to 2 drops food coloring or soap coloring

Melt the glycerin soap base.  This can be done in a microwave or on the stove top.  The best way to melt the soap base is with a double boiler.  For best results, melt on a low heat so you avoid boiling, burning or fire.  Once you have your soap base melted pour it into a bowl and start adding your other ingredients one by one.  The castor oil is for lathering, the shea butter is for moisturizing, the beeswax will make the soap harder, which will help make it last longer and the oatmeal nourishes the skin and can also work somewhat like an exfoliating agent.  The scented oils give if the desired smell and the coloring make it look pretty.  If you use food coloring, try not to use too much, you don’t want you handcrafted soap to color your skin.  Now you are ready to pour your soap into your mold, let dry and harden over night, then remove from mold and wrap in plastic wrap to keep it airtight.  Your handcrafted soaps will make wonderful gifts.  Why not take your handcrafted soap along with other handmade gifts you have made and put them into a gift basket and make a wonderful specialized gift?  You could also just make a gift basket of your different handcrafted soaps.
